The winter can be stressful. At Urban Remedy we want your winter memories to be family-filled instead of catastrophe-ridden. Here are a few yoga poses to destress after even the most anxiety-inducing holiday soirée season.
Child’s Pose: Kneeling on the ground, sit back on your heels and touch your forehead to the mat with your arms either stretched out in front of you or lying by your sides. Often encouraged as a resting stance during challenging classes, child’s pose stretches your low back, while also resetting your nervous system. With child’s pose in your back pocket, that failed holiday casserole will never get you down again!
Standing Forward Bend: With your feet planted shoulder width apart, slowly fold over one vertebra at a time until your hands reach your shins, feet, or the floor. Considered an inversion because your head is below your heart, this pose increases blood flow to the brain, reinvigorating your mind with energy and clarity. Perfect for another round of grandpa’s ‘jokes’…
Corpse Pose: Shavasanah, or corpse pose, is typically the final pose of any yoga class. Used as a gateway to post-workout meditation, this pose is a perfect remedy for calming all pre-holiday party jitters. Lie on your back with your palms facing up and focus your attention on the breath. If your mind needs a bit more help calming down, try counting down from 10 without any other thoughts popping into your mind. A thought popped up? Start back at 10. Just like that, you’re a countdown away to holiday bliss!
