8 edible aphrodisiacs to spice up your plate

By Megan

The incredible thing about healing foods is that we can use their qualities to influence our own qualities. Certain foods can benefit our circulation, mood, and vitality, all of which lend nicely to our sexual health. Connect with the sex god/goddess within by adding these foods to your plate:

Chai

The warming spices in chai not only boost your immune system, they also increase circulation, stimulating and awakening your sexual senses. The next time you are craving a little affection and fun with your partner, cozy up with some chai and let it take you on an adventure!

Maca

Native to Peru, this medicinal plant has a long-standing reputation for promoting fertility and lighting the fire of desire.

Cacao

The properties of cacao have the ability to energize, stimulate, and heal. The ancient Aztecs used cacao as a tool to prepare for war… and love. Because it is energizing and increases vitality, it has the ability to enhance strength in the battlefield and in the bedroom, making it an important healing food in ancient times. Today, we can enjoy raw cacao for its robust flavor and healing properties.

Coffee

As a socially acceptable stimulant, coffee may also elevate your mood by increasing levels of dopamine (the pleasure neurotransmitter) in the brain. Keep some healthier cold pressed coffee in the fridge when you need a quick boost.

Strawberries

Their shape says it all. These sweet heart-shaped berries have been a symbol of Venus, the goddess of love, since the ancient Roman era. With their remarkable antioxidant capacity, strawberries also help to regulate blood sugar, reduce inflammation and connect you with your inner sexy.

Honey

Just the imagery of golden honey oozing slowly from a cup is enough to create an erotic metaphor. Honey can actually promote testosterone production in men and the use of estrogen in women. It can increase levels of nitric oxide which is released naturally in the blood when one is aroused.

Avocado

Rich in healthy fats, avocados support your heart especially when it’s beating a little faster than usual.
