You were born with a unique constitution that includes your frame size and how you carry your weight. We come in all shapes and sizes. Some of us are naturally tall and thin, some of us are short and round, and some of us are somewhere in between. Tall and thin is typically the version we see in magazines and unfortunately the standard by which we tend to hold our own beauty. When it comes to your health and beauty, one size doesn’t fit all. You are unique! Create a better relationship with yourself and learn how to support YOUR body. There is much you can do to support your natural constitution by honoring its unique needs.
Ayurveda, the 5000 year old health science, created a system called doshas to better classify our constitutions. There are three primary doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurveda recognizes that ONE SIZE DOESN’T FIT ALL! In order to create a healthy, beautiful body you must respect your body’s nature.
What does your dosha dictate for your lifestyle and diet?…
Vata – If you are predominately vata you are naturally thin, with small bones and delicate features. You are creative, with a quick mind and are constantly in motion. Classic vata types include: Audrey Hepburn, Uma Thurman, and Adrien Brody.
The Vata Remedy – Lots of good fats: coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil, and ghee. Eat more warming foods such as whole grains, soups, and cooked veggies. Pacify excess vata with sweet, satisfying foods such as nut milks, nutrient dense smoothies, and filling snacks. Limit cold, drying, and bitter foods. Routinely eating hearty meals and taking time to meditate and breathe will help to keep you in balance. Try this!
Pitta – You have a strong constitution with a healthy appetite. You are a powerhouse and a natural leader. Your body is lean and muscular and your features, especially your eyes, show your intensity. Classic pitta types include: Cindy Crawford, Julianne Moore, and Brad Pitt.
The Pitta Remedy – Lots of raw fresh foods: seasonal salads, cold pressed juice, cooling fruits and veggies: cucumber, leafy greens, mint, and watermelon. Limit spicy foods. Raw foods, sufficient water intake and plenty of time in nature will help keep you in balance. Try this!
Kapha – You have a hearty constitution, a larger frame and can tend to carry excess weight. You are grounded, nurturing and calm. Classic kapha types include: Oprah Winfrey, Liv Tyler, and George Clooney.
The Kapha Remedy – A lighter diet of smaller portions will support your sluggish digestion. Regular cleansing and fasting can also give your body time to heal, shed excess weight and recharge your metabolism. Spicier foods will increase your digestive fire. Limit sweets, grains and wheat. Kapha does well with a combination of light, warming foods, lots of raw fruits and vegetables and daily movement to promote circulation and sweating. Try this!
