Treating Cramps + PMS

By Neka Pasquale, Founder of Urban Remedy

14_064One of the best things about studying TCM was learning how common foods can treat everyday ailments. Below are ways to treat cramps and other symptoms of PMS using diet.

Try: Eat foods rich in magnesium, such as spinach, lentils, pumpkin seeds, almonds, avocados, and cacao. Try the recipe below for PMS Relief tonic.

Avoid: Sugar and alcohol.

Why: Minerals like magnesium and potassium help stimulate activity in your muscles and nerves.

PMS Relief Tonic

Fennel is a uterine tonic, which makes it a soothing choice for any prementrual symptoms.

1/2 fennel bulb
4 large mustard green leaves
1/2 bunch fresh flat-leaf parsley
5 carrots
1 Granny Smith apple

Cut the vegetables and the apple into pieces that will fit into the chute of your extraction juicer. Then, following the manufacturer’s instructions, juice all of the ingredients in the order given. Pour into a tall glass.
