Baths are a wonderful way to relax and pamper yourself in a spa-like fashion. This “recipe” is a simple mix of salt and baking soda, which is detoxifying and will soothe sore muscles. We call for grapefruit essential oil to contribute to detoxification and cleanse the skin, but you might prefer relaxing lavender oil or rosemary oil to invigorate skin and impart mental energy.
If you don’t have a tub (or the time) for a full bath, you can enjoy the same benefits by soaking your feet in the same combination of ingredients, using a wide bucket or large bowl. To create a foot bath, use just halve the recipe.
Whether you choose a foot bath or a full bath, we recommend going all-out with candles, dim lights, and relaxing music. All of these elements together will help ensure complete relaxation and an incredible night’s sleep.
Salt and Soda Bath
1 cup (7 1/2 oz / 235 g) sea salt or Himalayan pink salt
1 cup (7 oz / 220 g) aluminum-free baking soda
6 drops grapefruit essential oil (optional)
To make your bath, fill the tub or basin with the hottest water you can stand and dissolve the sea salt and baking soda in the water, swirling it around to be sure all the granules dissolve. Add fragrance drops, if using, under running water. Soak in the tub for 20 minutes.
