Ingredient Spotlight: Lemons For Health!

By Rebecca

lemon-water.jpgLemons, citrusy and fresh, are rich in vitamin C, a water-soluble phytonutrient particularly helpful to the human body and its 50-65% water makeup. This water index provides ample entry area for vitamin C to dissolve into our bodily systems and boost immunity levels. Score!

On double duty patrol, vitamin C also has antioxidant properties that benefit the body’s general wellness. As vitamin C travels through the body, it neutralizes free-radical cells that, left alone, can disrupt healthy cell production, leading to swelling, inflammation, and in severe cases, cancer.

Still not convinced of lemons’ great nutrition benefits? Lemon bioflavonoids can actually influence the cells in your body to engage either in mitosis, cell division, or apoptosis, cell death. These bioflavonoids can also benefit the liver and clear mucus.
