5 Tips for a Weekend Detox

5 tips for a Weekend Detox by Urban Remedy

After a busy workweek, a quick weekend detox retreat can boost morale and reinvigorate your health for the following week. However, at Urban Remedy, we know going to a retreat isn’t always an option.

Here are some weekend activities, foods/juices that we recommend you try for an especially detoxifying weekend with great nutrition, and without venturing too far off schedule.

market-6.jpgBeets: Beets, the ruby of root vegetables, are bursting with minerals like magnesium, calcium, zinc, and iron. These minerals help clean the blood by flushing toxins from the body. With cleaner blood, oxygen moves more easily to the heart, brain, and other organs, boosting energy and mental clarity. At Urban Remedy, we love roasted beets at dinner or sipping raw beets throughout the day in our After Party for that extra kick of wellness.

Sauna: Sweat is your friend! Not only does sweat regulate body temperature, but it also eradicates toxins through your glands and skin in less than 15 minutes! An important but often forgotten trick to remember when visiting the sauna is to take rehydration breaks. The goal of sauna-ing is not to lose water weight (though that can be an added bonus), but rather to flush out toxins. Drinking more liquids increases the routes by which toxins can exit the body. If you have access to a local sauna, try hitting it up for a quick and relaxing weekend sweat.

ginger.jpgGinger: Spicy yet fresh, ginger increases your metabolism which in turn flushes toxins out of the body faster. Added bonus? Ginger also treats nausea. If your detox becomes too intense (meaning you dehydrate) chew on some ginger followed by a glass of water to rehydrate. At Urban Remedy, our Pink Lemonade has the kind of gingery kick you’re seeking this weekend. Pair it with our Ginger Brittle for a duo that will give you a deep detox!

how to do a juice cleane: after the cleanseBikram Yoga: Originating in India, this form of exercise involves practicing yoga in a studio set to 105° Fahrenheit. The elevated room temperature boosts sweat gland function, rapidly alleviating toxins. At the same time the yoga poses increase circulation, reinvigorating your muscles and clearing the mind. A true win-win! Like using saunas, rehydration is crucial when practicing Bikram yoga. So remember that water!

Pineapple: This island fruit is like a vacation for your colon. Pineapple contains the digestive enzyme bromelain which helps cleanse your colon. This cleanse flushes away any toxins stored in your intestines for a rejuvenated digestive tract. At Urban Remedy, our Pineapple Coconut shake has your perfect dose of pineapple nutrition power.

Let this weekend ready you for the week ahead. Just detox the day away!
